How to Make Shoes Look New Again
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Shoes. Everyone has shoes. There are loads of different types-but they can all look dirty and old from time to time. Want to get your kicks looking fresh, clean, and newly purchased? Then read on...
Steps
- Get a clean rag or towel and wipe down your shoes to remove any loose dirt. Make sure you wipe the entire shoe very well, and don't forget to wipe the heels, inside, and the straps (if you have high heels/sandals/thongs). Don't be too rough though-scrubbing violently can result in stones and important pieces of the shoes falling off, and then they'll REALLY look old.
- If you have leather shoes, get some polish and give them a good polish. Don't forget any important areas, and repeat polishing until you are satisfied and the shoes shine. If you have sandals or high heels, get a rag/towel and use some mild soap. Rub them gently all over, but be sure to check the material first.
- Rinse the shoes if you used soap, and let them dry. That goes for polishing too-let them dry in a cool dry area for until they aren't wet with water or polish anymore. Then give them another rub with a clean towel and you're done!
Tips
- When you buy a new pair of shoes, ask the person selling them to you how you can clean them, and get some tips on how to protect them and keep them looking good. If the shop keeper doesn't know, ask someone who does, or look it up on the net.
- If the shoes are absolutely terrible and disgusting, just chuck them out. Don't waste your time scrubbing them if they're quite obviously not going to look any better.
Warnings
- Always check the type of material and what you can use on it. Don't wreck a pair of perfectly good shoes, just because you couldn't be bothered to check whether the soap would be okay to use on them.
